2. RST Hackathon: Robotics Fun Fair

After the very successful first run last year, where the participants had lots of fun, we are now organizing the second edition. We will address the feedback from last year to optimize the joy and the learning experience. The good things will be kept, such as the pizza, the joint barbecue … and the rough organizational structure. ;-)
Only students of TU Dortmund University who are enrolled in any Bachelor's or Master's programs at the department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Computer Sciences (Bachelor’s and Master's), Applied Computer Sciences (Bachelor's and Master's), and Industrial Engineering (Bachelor's and Master's). Master's students must not have started their master's thesis on the date of the hackathon (October 26th) or hold a position as HiWi at our chair.
Registration takes place via LSF. Eligible students will subsequently be enrolled in a dedicated Moodle course, where additional information will be provided (e.g., regarding the Python programming test, preparatory dates, and the hackathon itself). The registration deadline is September 25th, 2025, 12:00 noon.
A maximum of 24 students will be admitted. These will be divided into six teams of four participants each. Students may register as a team (2–4 members) or individually. Team formation and adjustments may be arranged within Moodle.
Between 5th and 28th September 2025, all applicants are required to complete a short Python programming test (approximately 30 minutes in duration, suitable for beginners) at a time of their choosing. This test serves as the selection procedure for the 24 available places. We apply a balancing procedure to ensure that qualified students from as many different courses as possible can participate.
For students without prior experience in Python, introductory tutorial materials will be made available in Moodle.
Please note that registration via LSF does not yet constitute a binding confirmation of participation (from the students' side). Admission (from your side) is only confirmed upon successful completion of the programming test within the specified period. The final decision regarding participation in the hackathon will be made by the organizers after the programming test.
